[1508] Gold Coast: it’s really a surfer paradise!

After taking Mom to the airport on Friday night, I came back to Melbourne city and going out with friends. We came to a lounge similar to Xu in Vietnam, except it’s bigger and have more people, called Long Room. Most of the people here are upper-class of Melbourne, easily to tell by the way they dress and socialize. My friend was kinda buzzed after a few drinks, she danced really well, and many guys in the lounge tried to pick her up. We head back to the apt around 2am and called it a night.

My flight to Gold Coast was at 1pm with Tiger Airways. The checking process quite smooth since I already remove many of the electronic devices out from my back-pack before I weigh it. Landing in Gold Coast at 3pm, and the sun was up. It’s windy, but the sky is very clear and blue. Since there is no rush, I walked around airport for a bit, before heading out to the bus to get back to Surfer Paradise, where my hostel is.

I seriously don’t understand the people who always assume that all Asian know Chinese. On my way walking out of the airport, there are an old Chinese couple (in their mid-50s) come up to me and start speaking Chinese. I walked away while saying that “I’m not Chinese”. However, I turned around and saw them really confused with lots of paper, and seem very lost. They didn’t book any hotels and have no clue where to stay. After trying to talk with their broken English for a while, they decided to stay at my hotel for the night. We took bus #702 to get back to Surfer Paradise. I checked in to my dorm-bed while they got a double room for themselves.

The room is quite nice & clean, it even have the bathroom inside the room. There was four beds in the room, but only me and Japanese girl stay there for the night. After having dinner with a Chinese couple in a Chinese restaurant next to our hotel, I head to the beach myself. Since it is a Saturday night, there quite few people on the beach, which was built with park, trees, chairs, and out-door bathroom, really nice!

I head back to the hotel about 9pm, planning to get some rest and go check out some bars later. However, I was deadly tired and to sleep until the morning after. The weather in Gold Coast is kinda weird, my hotel is only 2-blocks away from the beach, and I can’t even wear tank-top because it’s really windy & cold. However, when I get to the beach, it was amazing!

I never seen a beach that clean before, the water is very clear & blue, can’t find even a plastic bag on the beach, and the temperature of the water is just very nice. I decided to take a surfing class, which signed up for me by the hotel. It turned out that I was the only student in the class with a very cute British instructor. It was not as easy as it looks, but I was able to stand up by myself after all. It’s just like the first time learning roller-blade :D

After two-hour on the surfboard, I head back to the hotel, they let me use their sauna room for taking shower, which is really nice. It’s truly a great feeling traveling by myself, I took the shower as slow as I want, put on some make-up and head back to the beach for some food. I settle down as McDonald’s but end up using the WiFi of HungryJack.
